Adult Program - Items to Bring

Students attending the Louisiana Center for the Blind should bring the following items:

 

  • Backpack

  • Pillows

  • Sheets and pillow cases, blankets and bedspreads (beds are twin size)

  • Clothes hangers

  • Towels and bath cloths

  • Clothes (neat, appropriate attire for classes; casual clothes for exercise, swimming, or camping; clothes for activities such as church, parties, etc.)

  • Alarm clock or clock radio

  • Rain gear (umbrella, coats, boots)

  • Shoes (comfortable walking shoes and dress shoes)

  • Toiletries and grooming items

  • Soap (bath, laundry, shampoo)

  • Medications and emergency numbers (family, physicians)

  • Medical insurance cards

  • Social Security card and/or number

  • Personal household items (kitchen utensils, pots, pans, dishes, glasses,

  • silverware, storage containers, broom, mop, dish drainer, cleaning supplies, etc.)

 

Suggested optional items: small kitchen appliances (coffee pot, toaster, blender, mixer, microwave), television, stereo, lamp, phone, pictures, books, computer, Braille writer, tape recorder, funds to open local checking account, initial supply of groceries. The Center is not responsible for lost or damaged items in the residential or training facility.

 

NOTE: Many of the above items can be purchased upon arrival at the local Wal-mart, one of several used furniture stores, and local grocery stores.

 

Washers and dryers are provided free of charge and located in the Student Activity Center. Vacuum cleaners are also provided for student use.

 

A phone is available in the Student Activity Center at the apartment complex for use by the students. Personal phones may be installed in individual apartments at the student’s expense.

 

Pets are not permitted.
