About Us - Attitudes
In
addition to being a "skills factory," the Louisiana Center
for the Blind is an "attitude factory." The staff, most
of whom are blind, are well acquainted with the common stereotypes
and misconceptions which surround blindness. By their own example
and through thought-provoking discussions and seminars, staff members
encourage those attending the Center to rethink their ideas about
blindness and to develop more positive perspectives. They are taught
that it is entirely "respectable" to be blind. Old feelings
of inadequacy are replaced by new feelings of self-confidence and
independence. Without the proper attitude about blindness, all the
skills in the world would not make a difference! In order to become
fully successful, every blind person must deal with attitudes!
